Harvest Insight - August 2018

With harvest just around the corner, the Crop Intelligence Team will be encouraging customers to record their yield data. Accurate yield data will help us identify improvements that can be made to the App to enhance the accuracy of Water Driven Yield Potential (WDYP).

Once the estimated season end date has passed, customers will be prompted to record the following:

  • Season end date (what date did you desiccate, swath or combine the field).
  • Harvest date (if different from season end date ? date combines rolled through)
  • Yield data at the probe
  • Yield data field average
  • If you did any top dressing or specific treatments with in the field and/or check strips, we would encourage you to record these as well for your future reference.
  • Notes ? please use this field to clarify any info you think is important regarding harvest data.

 

 
Recording Yield 
 
Recording Yield data is best done with a weigh wagon however we understand not all farms have the time and resources to do this, therefore we encourage all yield be taken with a calibrated yield monitor.
 
When recording yield at the probe we require an area average around the probe.  This is best accomplished by:
 
  1. Make 1stinitial combine pass next to the probe at normal operating speed gently steering around the probe.  Record the yield and make notes on any deviations including unexpected stops.
  2. Make 2ndreturn pass on other side of the probe at normal operating speed gently steering around the probe.   Record the yield and make notes on any deviations including unexpected stops, etc.
  3. Take an average of the yields.
 
Once we have recorded the actual season end date customers may notice a slight change in their WDYP.  This is because we now know the actual number of days the crop could receive precipitation contributing to yield.
 
Does your App need an Update?

Reminder make sure you have the most updated version of the Crop Intelligence App! We are always striving to improve the app and are continually adding new features. Please download the most recent version from your app store!  To find the current version you are running on your mobile device click on the 3 bars in the top left-hand corner, on the screen opens up you will see the version number on the bottom of the screen.  The harvest update will be available in Version 1.0.11.
